“I Love Sports” with Justin Timberlake

July 22nd, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Fun Stuff, General, Sports No Comments »

Debbie and I laughed often watching Justin Timberlake at the Espys. If you haven’t seen it, at least check out “I Love Sports” here!

My favorite parts include the way he mocked the Celtics and Kevin Garnett, the Tiger Woods rap, and when he mocked himself for the “wardrobe malfunction.”

Not all white people look the same….

At our kids swimming lessons the other day, one of the moms mentioned to me and Debbie how cute we looked together. She kept going on and on about how much alike we look and even told us we look like we could be siblings.

Hmmm.

I don’t see it at all. She is much, much better looking!

I Don’t Want “Wanted”

July 20th, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Family, Fun Stuff, General 3 Comments »

I cannot wait to see The Dark Knight on the IMAX screen on Tuesday night (first available showing that wasn’t in the middle of the night). In the meantime, Debbie and I went to see Wanted on our last date. That was a horrible mistake!

I can see why some people may like this film. I enjoyed some of the more dramatic moments, but it is a terrible date movie, especially when your date is extremely squeamish. She cannot even take the violence on TV shows like 24!

The movie ends with the main character (a weakling accountant-turned assassin) telling the audience: “I used to live a pathetic life like you.”

I was looking around the audience wondering, “Is he talking to me?” Now I didn’t like the movie!

The last line of the movie is the main character harrassing the audience again by saying he has taken control of his life and asking “What the f*#* have you been doing?!”

My response: “Wasting 2 hours and $20 watching you transform from a loser into a psychopath!”

I don’t like being taunted by characters on the screen. We would have been better off seeing Kung Fu Panda again!

Baseball Collision, Wipeout, and Dog Poop

July 16th, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Family, Fun Stuff, General 1 Comment »

Last night was a bad night.

Debbie and the kids came to watch my softball team and I play at the Field of Dreams. We were playing in a replica of Yankees Stadium. After hitting a home run in my last game and watching Josh Hamilton hit a barrage of deep home runs in the home run derby the night before, I was excited to show off to my wife and kids.

Unfortunately, it was our worst game ever. We did fine defensively (I had 3 catches in the outfield), but we only scored 6 runs in 7 innings which is not good in softball. I was a black hole of talent. I got one hit in four at-bats. I had two dribblers to the infield and was thrown out. When I got my one hit, Carl came running home from second only to be thrown out at the plate. I was also the last out of the game.

The worst moment came during my second at-bat. I hit the ball slowly to the 3rd basemen. It was practically a bunt it was such a poor hit. I ran as fast as I could hoping to beat out the throw. Out of nowhere the first basemen appeared standing on the base. I ran right into him and bounced back hard onto the ground. I don’t know if I was running with my head down or the glare of the sun over first base kept me from seeing him or perhaps the throw moved him into my path. Either way, I was laid out flat on my back.  It would have been a great America’s Funniest Home Video moment, but no one was recording it (although I did hear some people in the crowd laughing).

Trevi said I looked like a doll running into a brick wall. The guy apologized to me later a couple of times, but he didn’t help me up after laying me out. I had a few cuts from where my sunglasses dug into my face. Rather than hurt, I was embarrassed. We went on to lose 10-6.

NOTICE THE CUTS AROUND MY EYE

Back at home, while I was taking a shower, I heard Caleb scream one of the loudest screams I have ever heard him scream. He had stepped with his bare feet on dog poop left on the floor by our puppy Emma. Debbie did most of the clean up, but it was hard for him to recover after such a disgusting experience.

Two of our friends from Mosaic (Gabriel and Kat) were on Wipeout last night, and we missed watching it! I hope to watch it (episode #4) online later here. I caught the end of the show, but by then they had been eliminated.

Finally, the National League lost in the All-Star Game ruining the chances for the Dodgers to be able to have home field advantage in the World Series.

Here’s hoping and praying today will be a better day!

Next Generation of Music Lovers

July 13th, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Family, Fun Stuff, General, Mosaic No Comments »

My kids always love to choose the music on the iPod while we are driving. If Trevi gets to choose on the way to wherever we are going, Caleb gets to choose on the way back (and vice versa). Of course, I only download the clean versions of these artists. :)

Here are there top picks:

TREVI

Hillsong Kids

Hillsong United

Gwen Stefani (especially “Wind It Up”)

anything with Joby Harris (Mosaic (sold out) or Crash Rickshaw)

CALEB

Dropkick Murphys (”I’m Shipping Up to Boston”)

Kanye West (especially “Jesus Walks”)

DC Talk

anything with Joby

“Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D”

July 11th, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Family, Fun Stuff, General 1 Comment »

journey-to-center-of-earth.jpg

Debbie, the kids, and I got to see Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D on Wednesday at a screening.  I have to admit, I didn’t have very high hopes.  I don’t know if it was the marketing or thinking I already knew the story or what, but in the end, it was a really, really fun movie!

The 3D effects were fun!  Watching the kids jump and scream and smile and get sucked into the possibility of an undiscovered world in the center of the earth was a blast.  It made me want to read the original book and even hope for a sequel with Brenden Fraser and his nephew.  Their relationship was a sweet story to watch as well.  I would add this movie to the top 3 of my summer movie list!

“I Never Lose”

July 10th, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Character, Fun Stuff, General, Life No Comments »

During our recent road trip in Texas, we purchased Queen’s Greatest Hits.

The kids already know a couple of the songs from going to Dodgers games or even playing little league baseball or just being a sports fan in general. They are now officially Caleb’s favorite band. He always asks for us to “put on The Queen!” I even heard him attempting to play “We Will Rock You” and “Another One Bites the Dust” on his little drum set.

queens-greatest-hits.jpg

One of my new favorite activities is to play the song “Bicycle Race” in the car on the freeway while pretending to run really fast like Jim Carey did in Dumb and Dumber (”It feels like I am running at a really high rate of speed!”)

If you don’t know this song, listen to the sample at Amazon.com and try it! Debbie and the other drivers around me hate it when I do it, but the kids and I cannot stop laughing!

My favorite line from any of their songs which is sang which such hilarious, ironic hyperbole comes from “We Are the Champions (of the World).”

Freddie Mercury sings: “I consider it a challenge before the whole human race that I never lose!”

I love how grandiose and melodramatic these guys were! Even in the midst of their bragging, you cannot help but like them!

May we all have such confidence yet make people smile in the process! :)

Best Summer Movies (So Far)

July 6th, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Family, Fun Stuff, General 3 Comments »

As a movie connoisseur and someone who likes to see a movie each week on opening weekend, here is my order of the movies I have seen (so far):

Kung Fu Panda - a really fun and hilarious movie with a great story and great message

kung-fu-panda.jpg

Prince Caspian (a very close second)

prince-caspian-resize.jpg

Iron Man - a really, really good movie (thanks to Joel for reminding me to add this to my list). it seems like so long ago that I saw it, yet it is definitely one of the top three movies of the summer so far.

iron-man-resize.gif

Wall-E - a slow-moving but meaningful movie. a bit preachy at the end but includes some fun moments.

wall-e-resize.jpg

Hancock-not really a very close fourth but definitely better than the last two. too many unanswered questions and a confusing story.

hancock-resize.jpg

Zohan and Indiana Jones- I imagine these two films will stay at the bottom of this summer list even after the others I hope to see.

No Hits and a Win!?!

June 29th, 2008 Eric Bryant Posted in Fun Stuff, General, Sports No Comments »

My brother, Scott, and his wife Natalie drove across the country with Anna, Luke, and Reid to spend the week with us. We are excited to show them around our city!

la-dodgers.gif

Last night couldn’t have started off more remarkable or stranger. We watched the Dodgers and Angels play at home on the television and saw the Angels throw a no-hitter and lose!

“The only run of the game came when Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp took advantage of two errors in the fifth inning to reach third base and Blake DeWitt drove him home with a sacrifice fly.”
