Soar! by T.D. Jakes (GLS18)

Bishop T.D. Jakes is a filmmaker, author, speaker, and pastor of The Potter’s House and shared the following insights at GLS18:

If everyone likes our vision then our vision is too small.

We need a vision that is so big it scares us. A vision should be a little bit annoying, a little bit aggravating, a little bit frustrating.

People who change the worlds didn’t have enough but thought deep enough.

Sometimes we may have the right vision but be in the wrong place. We need to consider the environment. The Wright Brothers moved from Dayton to Kittyhawk where the wind was better for an airplane could work.

Doesn’t matter where you start but where you finish.

They might laugh when you start, but they’ll take pictures when you finish. It’s your time to soar.

We are motivated to grow more when we lose than when we win.

What did you learn from your last failure?

It is the things you learn from the things you failed in that set you up for the things you’ll fly in.

Sometimes we waste time winning in areas that aren’t moving us forward.

We cannot afford to become economically astute and intellectually bankrupt. Education matters.

In order to embrace diversity, you must forever be the student and not the teacher. Always learning and not assuming.
